I like my splash effect here. It's pretty. And see how I can make myself draw crowds of people without getting too bored? I don't always, though.
I finally finished inking that one page. There are new characters in it, and pens I'm not quite familiar with, so it took a lot longer than I expected.
I'm working on the next batch of scripts; it's a flashback that's pretty deep in the heart of the story. It's difficult to finally put these ideas that I've had in my mind into a concrete form. I'm afraid that up to this point, I've been guilty of violating that cardinal writing rule, "show, don't tell." And this is a comic, for goodness' sake! I guess I'll just always love words more than pictures.
I haven't done any coloring. The more I think about it the more I believe I'd appreciate having a separate colorist. I'm getting pretty deft with the techniques, but I haven't been using them to their fullest effect. They take so much time, and I find I'd rather spend that time writing. But the characters look so much more solid, and the trees so much prettier, with color even if it's very basic.
Today I congratulate James, who won third place in the Challenge of Champions adult grappling division. I wasn't there, because of circumstances, but I'm sure he fought gloriously. I shall hang the plaque in the stairwell with the certificate saying he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro.
